Brief Description

Practicality of an Escort with the punch provided by a turbocharged lump.

With a 1.6 Turbo engine the car provides good fuel economy and great performance with resonable insurance and servicing costs.

Reliability

No problems during my ownership at all.

Performance

Strong performance provided by the engine, the only criticism of the engine is that you have to wait for the turbo to spool before the car really starts to shift. The CVH gets a little harsh at higher RPM.

Practicality

Three door bodyshell does not make it the most practical, but the car does sit four adults in comfort and the boot is large enough to take away a family of four for a weekend.

Comfort

Well specced and well trimmed, front recaro seats give good support especially when handy when making swift progress.

My car had electric front windows, sunroof and electric front windscreen (a godsend).

Cost

Resonable insurance costs at the time and cheap Ford servicing, I had no reliability gremlins during my ownership so running costs were very low.

Overall Rating

A pocket rocket, give the car the beans and it will reward you.

The car is getting rare now and totally standard cars rarer still. I wish I had kept mine.
